Life Down Here...

If I could stand,
What's there to see?
Would it be more than a child,
Curiously looking at me?

Will I be treated as an equal?
Or will people play the game
Pointing and teasing?
Never askng, "What's your name?"

As I roll through the crowd,
In my hulking, metal chair,
And the people all around me,
Do nothing but stare.

Should I yell?
Should I scream?
"What's the matter with you?"!!
Or should I smile and ignore it,
Like I always do?

Life down here is a battle,
To be seen as an equal.
Pushed away and looked over,
By so many people.

The ache that I feel,
Comes from the same place,
It's in my heart,
In my spirit,
Due to everyone's blank face.

Do you think you'd survive ,
a day in my shoes?
Walk in misery,
Sit in happiness,
Which one would you choose?

Truth be told,
In reality,
I don't harbor any fear,
I'm a strong disabled woman,
With a life full of cheer.

I share my strength with others,
Who need a helping hand,
For those who can't cope,
And don't understand.

Although we are different,
There's no reason to fear,
The ignorance of other's...

Cuz it's comfortable...

Life down here.

Jenifer Williams

I have been writing since I was a little girl. I've written poetry, short stories, a play and my own biography. I chose to become a Pagan Witch in my early 20's. It was one of the best decisions of my life! I look at the world with child-like wonder, love the Earth like my own Mother and nature's creatures are my siblings.I have been physically disabled since the age of 8. I have been confined to a wheelchair for over 10 years due to the progression of my conditions. It has been a humbling experience to live as a disabled woman and sharing my poetry will hopefully help people... more…
