Into Light

In just the moment when the door swung wide,
Through one tall window sun went streaming in
And sun came streaming out. Such radiance!
So strong I only caught the shining outline
Of an unknown land, enough to feel
Its presence. Not for long, so soon the sun
Was gone. And then the room was just a room.

They say our world is that way, mostly dark.
Yet one small moment of illumination
And we swing a door routinely open
Into one more room to face a flood
Of radiance beyond. Our world, but new
And unexpected, transformed into a flowing
Universe, a life of high adventure.

The doors are there. They do exist. And even
One small inner sun can light a way
Into that universe. Who knows? When next
you stand before a blank-faced door, recall
That even in the night one has one’s vision,
Or at least a hope. The drabbest door
Will sometimes open to a realm of light.
