Inner me Inner You

I thought the outer use to comb my hair
When it was the inner you,showing that you cared
I thought the outer bandaged up my knee
When it was the inner you showing you loved me

I thought the outer you caressed me with your hands
When it was the inner you showing you understand
I thought the outer you scorned me in my youth
When it was the inner you showing me the truth

I thought the outer you made my life glow
When it was the inner you helping me to grow
I thought I loved the outer you with all my heart
When it was the inner you I loved from the start

It's just been lately that it occurred to me
That what I loved most of all I really couldn't see
Only now I realize as before I didn't see
The inner part of you,is now an inner part of me

I guess it's part of living as growing has its pain
I hope the inner me will some day do the same
Everlasting life maybe thats what it's meant to be
