If This Were Living

Oh, to have eyes that see beyond the mere images of life,
To understand the harshness of pain and the stings of strife;
To have hands that reach beyond the sensations of touch--
A grasp that holds onto the true meaning of trust;
Ears that listen to the spirit of the soul--
A spirit that can make the whole world grow,
Oh, to glimpse upon peace, to walk beside hope,
To inhale joy and happiness, to know what to die for!
How sweet and triumphant the heart will beat,
As the soul rejoices, cherishing the gifts of peace--
For the heart to be at ease and the mind to drift like clouds;
To discover a wonder of the world that has not yet been found--
Loving and sharing and caring and giving;
Oh, if this were life--if this were living!
