Honorable Friend

Many many years ago,
On a summer afternoon.
Checking the sons bikes,
Races were to begin soon.

I kick started the first one,
It took off,I could not stop.
From our drive into the street,
Right in front of a cop.

No brakes,I ran into the ditch,
Dirt bike,no helmet what a mess.
How large would my fine be,
I could not even start to guess.

The policeman did not fine me,
He just made sure I was o.k.
I knew I had met a good person,
We are still friends to this day.
