Figure of Speech

Just a figure of speech is the going rate today,
To say what you mean and not mean what you say.
Promises, promises, no bond to your word,
None requiring you to answer for broken promises heard.
A very fitting speech, profound words goodly spoken,
Hearts won over, not expecting they'll be broken.
Words are promises to carry out until done,
Rock-a-bye America, you gullable one.
Loudly proclaimed from your empty black hole,
Your words, just a figure of speech in bold.
