Fear of the dark,( a villanelle)

I gazed lost into a saddened lonely night
and prayed for the sweet release of dawn
cursing the stars that guide me with their light

Lonely whispering streets gave me their flight
knowing I was merely a disposable pawn
I gazed lost into a saddened lonely night

And I the fool who thinks it true and right
to be butchered as the lowly easy prey, the fawn
cursing the stars that guide me with their light

Crying as the pages pierce my fading sight
by burning flame that blinds but dare not yawn
I gazed lost into a saddened lonely night

How in this life should I overcome this plight
escaping the haunting lure of dark to greet the dawn
cursing the stars that guide me with their light

Oh wait and hope that day brings strength as might
green becomes the once hidden grasses on my lawn
I gazed lost into a saddened lonely night
cursing the stars that guide me with their light
