Color of the Rain
Rain
Rain, red with its thundering roar and cries of fury
Signals war on the battlefield, death of fathers, of sons
The rage of man
As he battered his foe with his stone-edged axes, iron swords, bayonets,
MP-40s, M-16s, MP-5s, nube tubes, nukes,
Laser beams, gravity hammers, suits that make you fly and Shoot rockets from your hands.
Pours hot sauce into a woman’s womb
All 9 months, 36 weeks, 252 days, 6,048 hours, 362,880 minutes,
21,772,800 seconds wasted by the hand of a brother stranger
Who, most of the time, did not kill because he wants to
But he was made to by the thing we named country, money, good and evil.
Rain, black with its funeral dirge and tears of weep
Tells the death of an angel, a god, a goddess
A child’s death, a father’s death, a woman squeal death,
A priest preach death, a dog ran over by a car death,
Mother Nature’s death
Then reborn
Falls through the clouds in the troposphere
Through the plane flying above,
The roof above our heads, the ceiling, the hand, the pencil,
The paper, Words, the floor, the basement, the ground,
The water,
And back into our mouths as we speak them
Rain… no, a storm with its herald of destruction
Tucks me in bed at night with a bedtime story
Of a boy who wakes in dreams, chased by zombies, hunted by serial killers,
Fought in a war with knights and dragons, turned into a turtle,
Awaken by a princess, became the hero of the world, zapped to a different universe,
Running in an endless staircase of colors, swimming in the clouds cotton candy
Then, softly lifts me to day
Tapping at my window
Trickling down, all around nothing but
Silence
And the Rain.
