Cityscape
Looking west from my sixth floor balcony
The skyline of a fine city I see.
By day, a mass of geometric shapes
Whose grey buildings clutter up the landscape.
Chrysler and Empire state building in view,
Fifty ninth street, and Triborough bridges too.
Long gone are the historic twin towers,
Now but a memory to world powers.
Sometimes at twilight against flaming skies,
Shimmering buildings dazzle naked eyes.
Awash in a blaze of fierce fiery gold,
Proudly they stand with stories to be told.
By night the city is transformed by light,
Bejeweled, each building a beautiful sight.
Against the night sky of a midnight hue
She displays her lights in red, white and blue.
