Catharsis

I trust the red sun setting
Into leafless November trees
Cold Monday mornings
Looking to greet Fridays eve

But we are not as strong...
Those faded dogwood colors are so less often told
Until now, it doesn't matter what you mean
I trust only what I've seen

You can call me back this fall
I can't promise that I'll be waiting
Despite this pleasant interruption to our past,
We both know how long this fall will last

This myriad of change is a confessional
Beautiful would hardly do you justice
Yet I close my eyes and all I see
are your footsteps fading away to January

I hope you don't misunderstand
Your song is ever sung
"Hands down" has twice the meaning
So perfect when we were young..

Surely for every leaf that falls
The quiet cacophony of winter calls,
But for now I pause in red, gold and brown
Everlasting colors...perfect sound.
