CARPENTER (Poem #64)
A carpenter does great work with his hands;
And his mind, too, as he looks over the plans.
This kind of work may take a lot of skill.
But to see a finished job is surely a thrill.
He figures and he measures with his tape.
For a great product he hopes he will make.
Trial and error surely make him the best.
Seeing a beautiful product must make him feel blessed.
As we drive around town, he points out this and that
Whether it be a church or a barn or some other habitat.
And driving on by, he says with such pride.
“I hope that the people are happy who inside abide.”
And when he's retired and his work is all done,
I'm sure he will look back and remember the fun
