Box of Memories



The brown lane is carpeted
by leaves old and worn
gently caressed by the breaths
of dawn's first yawns

Settled fog is thickening
engulfing these woods
where tangled tall trees
with pride have stood

Following the footsteps
hidden beneath the leaves
Intact by time
She treads in disbelief

Hand in hand she once
walked the same lane
with someone who has now
left in her this pain

Before a tree she halts
The blue ribbon is there
tied around a branch
still looming in the air

She still hears the giggles
mixed with tears of sorrow
when they tied that ribbon
a few years ago

Memories frozen in time
Now she kneels down
digging up a hole
in the once dug up ground

A few tears escape
 as her eyes open wide
She's found the wooden box
in which their memories hide

A heart shaped necklace
inside the box is kept
with scrapes of paper and a picture
of her dead best friend
