A Song For My Dad

Dad, you never heard me sing, but this song is for you.
The fact that your physical presence is gone still
often makes me blue.
Dad, hear me from where you are and know how much I care.
Your spirit in my heart puts a smile in the air.
Dad, this song is for you, hear it from above;
Dad, this song is for you, I sing it from the heart,
for you, with love.
I miss your wise advice that you were always eager to give me.
I miss your great concern and your willingness to shield me,
from this unpredictable world and life's cruel ups and downs
and from those who had not my best at heart,
who may have slipped around.
Dad, until we meet again in that other world,
precious memories I'll treasure like a diamond and a pearl.
Smile down on me, and I will know
you hear my song for you.
