A Dream

On an eve I wandered
A lighted wood chip trail
Newly born, I newly saw
The lovely lowing swale

In vernal pools, the little bugs
They kept their cozy lots
Under limbs of giant trees
With crooked whorl knots

I nearly lost myself
Amongst these simple folk
‘Til startled by a wetness -
The unkind clouds had broke

In panicked haste I ran
Through musical dripping drops
Down a watery puddle path
Below the sheltering copse

And I sweat-through awoke
And spied my sleeping wife
I returned to concrete thoughts
I returned to a cemented life
