Not free for long

Arpan Dey 2004 (West Bengal)

Look at the robot.
It's a terribly poor mimicry
Of human consciousness.
It's not, but we're free:
Free to laugh and cry
Free to live and love
Free to learn and forget
To fly away like a dove.
Since we're living,
Over it we've an edge.
But the robot is silently
Taking its revenge.
What with computers
And everything gone virtual;
A day will come when
We can't hear the call.
The call of humanity
Will be forever gone.
And humans and robots
Will merge into one.
And then me and the robot
Will be dead equally;
But as a last comforting note
We’ll be alive virtually.
That’s not freedom.
No, you’re wrong.
I know very well that:
We are not free for long.
