Today We Lay My Friend to Rest

Today we lay my friend to rest
A husband a father you passed the test
My buddy, my pal , you were the best
Today we lay my friend to rest

You lived your life you set the pace
You touched our soul you won the race
To all that knew you were the best
Today we lay my friend to rest

On this earth you left your mark
The impact you made touched our hearts
The awards you won adorn your chest
You worked and played to be the best
Today we lay my friend to rest

Death came quick and way to fast
But our love for you will never pass
To know and love you we were blessed
Today we lay my friend to rest

The many memories I cherish will never part
I carry them with joy and laughter deep in my heart
The time has come to say goodbye, we’ll see you soon in that sweet bye and  bye
Until  that time we meet again you’ll always be the friend I call my best.
Today we lay my dear friend to rest.

I'm 68 yrs old and have never written a poem in my life. Recently my best friend was laid to rest and I couldn't express how I felt. I looked for a poem to describe how i felt but couldn't find anything. The morning of the funeral this poem came to me in my sleep. I hope people can use this and give them some comfort in their sorrow. more…
