Echo

Emily Martucci 1995 (Pennsylvania)

Raised chill upon the skin ..
Dark thoughts soon to linger in
A heart pained silence in the thin
Air so shallow ,  whispered wind.
Reaching out for touch
To only feel dust within ones clutch
The begging to feel ones warmth it seems too much ..
The hopeless, narrow , dashing memory of a dream becomes a crutch.
An echoing, desperate, aching call
To only the reverberating wall
For no response from one to all -
Reverse the pain , and heartache fall.
One asks for days to see the light-
Of what was once so free and bright-
Of what was once what had felt right-
Of what was once more a dream of night.
How much longer can one wait
To hold onto a desolated, dim, and empty fate
To cross ones fingers and hold ones plate
Of hopeful future and a happier state.
To crawl into a tiny spot.
In fetal hold , in comfort rock;
To each tear that gather to flock
A puddle of lonely , dreaded mock.
Soon , one prays , to see the sun
And finally feel that they have won
To know they've fought through a dreadful run
To embrace the new life know this one's done.
