The Black Chevrolet

Steven Eads 1947 (Williston, ND)

T'was Mar of the yar.
I was back from the war.
When I first was the car.
And I bought the black Chevrolet.

I gave it a whirl,
Took it to show my girl.
Took her for a spin,
Tried to get her in
To the back of the black Chevrolet.

We married, we did,
And then there were kids
And I guess we got old
(Or anyway less bold)
For we no longer use
And I think she'd refuse the back of the black Chevrolet.

But it's in the garage
So it's not a mirage.
And I'll always keep
The black Chevrolet
