The Love You Give

To fall in love
You need to quench its thirst
For someone to love you too
That they place you first

There in your heart
The source of your love
From the days of your youth
Dreams on stars above

For a boy to have eyes for you
A longing within his heart
That only you can fill
An essential part

Like him, you need to love
But not just anyone
Someone who sees as you do
Love is not a game, not for fun

The feelings in your heart
Come with trust
And breaking your heart
Will cause your love to rust

For love is the reason
The reason we live
And I’ll strengthen to you
The love you give

DanceOfThePoet'sPen

Guess you could say I'm a self taught poet. I started writing poetry as a means of dealing with the emotions of finding my Birthmother's obituary and grave site after searching for 10 years. I continued writing and over the course of the last 20 years I've become comfortable in how I write. You'll notice I tend to write a lot about nostalgia and old memories. Hey, when you round the corner of 60 years, you start thinking a lot about the past and where you've been. One of my subjects I write about is love, but I try to write of other things too. I've lived on the south shore of Massachusetts for all of my 64 years. But I love all of New England. Aside from writing poetry, I also love photography and have quite a collection of old antique cameras. Baseball, football, muscle cars and car shows are also some of my interests. Not too crazy about Winter. Spring & Summer are my favorite seasons. more…
