Stealing Looks

We keep stealing looks
Back and forth at each other
Trying to forget our past
Smiling to act as a cover

Past relationships that failed
Built up a wall to protect
Defending a wounded heart
Fears of a love reject

Lonely Way is a two way street
Needing, but afraid of love
Searching for courage enough
To take a chance again on love

I see interest in your eyes
But I sense fear in your heart
Like me you’re hesitant
To try to make a new start

Your broken heart all healed
But how healed if your still afraid?
Your mask of confidence wears thin
Giving clue to your facade

And I’m no different
Holding back my emotions
Can’t make known my fragile state
Or fall victim to deceitful potions

Fear of commitment
And I won’t do one night stands
So why is it I want to
Reach out for your hand

You don’t know me
And I don’t know you
We spend our nights
Lonely and blue

And yet still here we are
Stealing looks between us
Can we be open to love?
Without all the fuss

DanceOfThePoet'sPen

Guess you could say I'm a self taught poet. I started writing poetry as a means of dealing with the emotions of finding my Birthmother's obituary and grave site after searching for 10 years. I continued writing and over the course of the last 20 years I've become comfortable in how I write. You'll notice I tend to write a lot about nostalgia and old memories. Hey, when you round the corner of 60 years, you start thinking a lot about the past and where you've been. One of my subjects I write about is love, but I try to write of other things too. I've lived on the south shore of Massachusetts for all of my 64 years. But I love all of New England. Aside from writing poetry, I also love photography and have quite a collection of old antique cameras. Baseball, football, muscle cars and car shows are also some of my interests. Not too crazy about Winter. Spring & Summer are my favorite seasons. more…
