Lady Sea Star

lady sea star
wears her
tiara
to the ballet
alone
sitting with herself
on corals
soaking in the rhythmic
interpretation.

her hands know the contours
of her own skin better
than any stranger's.

in the mirror a reflection
stares back a familiar
lover's gaze.

no need for awkward
small talk or morning
after regrets.

her fingers tracing the
map of her own desire,
no risk of misread
signals or unmet
expectations.

in this companionless
dance she is both
giver and receiver.

no fear of rejection
or abandonment,
only the gentle
curve of her own
satisfaction.

the world outside
fades to black as she
loses herself in
the rhythm of her
own making.

and she smiles
