Amma's Jouurney

In shadows cast by life's cruel twist,
Stands Amma, a monument of grace,
A spiritual being once strong, her will has waned,
Recent falls, broken bones, an unyielding tiredness,
Now stroke's cold hand has left its trace.

Once vibrant, now her steps unsure,
Her laughter's melody a distant song,
Her left side still, her words a blur,
Yet in her eyes, a brief flicker.

A matriarch, weathered by the years,
Her independence now a fragile thread,
An unyielding tiredness has set in;
A gaze, once resilient,
A testament to the life she's led.

The family gathers, grief's heavy shroud,
Each heart a battlefield, emotions arrayed,
Either at the bedside or from distant lands,
Yet through the tears, compassion vowed,
For in unity, love's strength displayed.

Uncertainty looms like gathering storm,
How long will she grace this earthly stage?
Who’s to know or decide?
Yet in each moment, compassion warms,
A beacon guiding through grief's maze.

In the midst of trials, a doctor stands,
His gaze fixed on the battle's course,
The rhythm of the ICU with bells galore;
Seeking solutions with skilled hands,
To fix the clot, to find the source.

Yet in her quest for answers clear,
The family's gaze drifts beyond the fray,
Seeking meaning, pretending to know Amma’s wish, holding dear,
The moments shared along life's way.

For while the doctor's aim is true,
To mend the body, to heal the pain,
The rhythm of the ICU with bells galore;
The family's focus, a spiritual lot, a different view,
On dignity, on love's refrain.

In every treatment, every test,
The doctor's diligence shines bright,
The rhythm of the ICU with bells galore;
But in the quiet moments, it's confessed,
That meaning lies in love's pure light.

So let the doctor's efforts blend,
With the family's quest for grace,
A new life of dependence;
In unity, their strength ascend,
To meet life's challenges they face.

For in the balance of skill and heart,
Lies the path to healing's art,
The rhythm of the ICU with bells galore;
Where compassion and meaning intertwine,
Guiding them through grief's design.

Quality of life, dignity enshrined,
In every touch, in every care,
Who’s to tell what’s worthy of clinging onto?
For in these moments, true love's defined,
In tender acts, in silent prayer.

Through stages of grief, they journey on,
In acceptance, in anger, in healing's embrace,
Yet through it all, compassion's dawn,
Illuminates the path to grace.

Though challenges may test their might,
And sorrow's tide may ebb and flow,
Life forever alter altered,
In love's embrace, they find their light,
Guiding them through life's ebb and flow.

So let compassion be their guide,
As they navigate this unknown sea,
Life forever alter altered,
For in their love, they'll find the tide,
That carries them to tranquility.

Words and writing have always interested me, but the transition now is from scientific writing (which is based on logic and the rational) to a more emotive, lyrical form. At present this remains an experiment to see if I can strike the right tone, elicit a desired effect, etc. Full disclosure: I have been utilizing chatGPT as an "assistant"; I provide the prompts, edit extensively, yet the structure is provided by my assistant. I take full responsibility for the end result. Not that dissimilar to work on a scientific project in the lab, etc. more…
