I AM BEAUTIFUL

Situated carefully and quietly at a vanity area in my cosy room,
Face gazing at myself through a cracked mirror,
Gradually, repeated words of dirt graduated into a song in my head,
Like a collection of images forms a gallery,
It replayed and replayed like a playlist,
Prolonging the song's rhythmic flow like a symphony of a shattering glass,
My eyes were bound to the mirror, bound like a prisoner to a cell,
Causing my heart to continuously ride in between lines of blank pages,

My arms were placed to wrap round my head like a mother's love in moments of dread,
Consoling myself to a moment of silence in a silent, cosy room,
My head seems to be the one making the noise,
Noises that screams how flaw-filled I am,
My head fell to the ground,
Never to return up,
I tied my heart to a stone just to clamp my words,
While blaming the mirror's harsh truth,
I fled in thought to a land of insight.

What does it mean to be beautiful?
In quest of this, I raised my head up and looked at the mirror,
More keenly this time,
My eyes glinted like a polished silver,
I slowly looked at myself,
Then I saw something quite different,

My hair, dark as the night yet bright as a moonlight,
My brown skin, clothed with melanin and glowing in its beauty,
My eyebrows, carved with uttermost care displaying a work of art drawn by nature's finest brush,
My eyes- big like an ostrich's with its unique dark, glossy and striking appearance,
My nose- wide as the sea with every breath an ocean breeze,
My lip-well shaped like a seashell smooth and delicate,
My ears- like a butterfly fluttering gently in the wind,
My face-half covered with birthmarks like a tapestry woven,
Making it two-toned with a unique touch,

I am beautiful, I wailed,
No, I am not fighting back what I have become,
My flaws and scars are my beauty,
Yes, my bruises are written all over like artistic dots following a particular design,
Yet they define how unique I am.
Broken teeth, bent leg, cleft lip, missing teeth, two-toned skin?
I embrace them all, they're not a mask to hide behind,
I will flaunt them like a peacock would flaunt its tail.

Like a cracked glass whose light shines through in patterns,
My face reflects light, the light shines through,
A wondrous sight to seek,
The colours are different,
but the beauty is bright,
I am beautiful.

Branded in all kind of creativity,
Gleaming varieties of beauty like a rainbow in the sky,
Exhibiting all shades of uniqueness,
Basking in the height of perfection,
My imperfections make me perfectly me,
I am beautiful.

I wear my scars like badges of honor,
A testament to my strength and resilience,
a unique creation with a story to tell,
In my eyes, I see a masterpiece,
A work of art that's wonderfully me,
My beauty knows no boundary,
I am beautiful.
