A Not So Good Day

Sam Ruiz 1997 (Utah)

Wake up and fight that’s how we started this day
Then off to the school bus the normal way

Nothing really seemed different but no one could tell
The young girls day was about to go to hell

A phone call than text saying “I do love you”
That was the last text but she had no clue

Merely a few seconds later her phone blew up
She quieted it down and went out of the room to see what was up

36 texts and a ton of calls all that would change everything
She was scared to do anything

She ended the call with a tear down her cheek
this had turned out to be the worst freaking week

Back to her teacher to say somethings wrong
Down to the office trying to be strong

But the first hug sent the tears flowing
Nothing could stop her heartache from growing

The staff was all coming to help her feel better
But no matter what, her face just got wetter

She couldn’t go home
because of too much snow

She went the rest of the day like a drone
Surrounded by tons but felt so alone

Her friends tried to help make her smile
While her insides felt on fire

When the day finally ended and she got to the bus
She was tired of all the fuss

An hour later she arrived back
22 cops aligned front to back

It was hard to stay calm
after she had lost her mom
