Valentines

Shannon Baxter 2010 (Arizona)

The air smells of chocolate
The calendar flips to its second page

Heart-shaped candies are stocked
Signaling another day of love

The soft plush of a stuffed bear
Holding a stuffed heart

The sickly sweet taste of
Rich, creamy chocolates

Everyone is smiling
Hand holding

Peals of laughter
That I cannot share

Looks like it'll be another year
Silently bleeding

Go through the years
Without
Until I feel no more
