Good Night Ball

Bats of thunder, grass glistening with dew,
Tobacco chaw and Big League Chew,
Baseball is back, hope springs anew,
The games will be many, a whopping one sixty-two.

Fields pristine, they chase and run,
The occasional spark, a bit of fun,
Big hit, double play, or a three-pitch K,
Opens our eyes when they begin to lay.

Those sparks are so rare,
'Tis difficult to care,
Too many, too long, too dull,
These games make tired my poor aching skull.

Three-hour games down to 2:42,
Still way too long for both me and you,
See me in the stands, utter not a peep,
For I'll spend most games so soundly asleep.

About this poem

Baseball season is starting up again and games make me sleepy.
