Peace

Peace means soldiers can put down their guns
And mothers can welcome home their sons.
Peace means that silent place in your mind
That understands those not of your kind.

Peace makes you feel you must do your part
To ensure love’s always in your heart
Peace makes you feel beautiful inside
Contagious joy you just cannot hide.

Peace is the strength that’s given to few
To see someone else’s point of view.
Peace is each diplomat’s single goal
What he desires most deep in his soul.

Peace means all the world’s children can play
With danger and violence held at bay.
Peace means, most of all, that we can live
In harmony if we’ll just forgive.

About this poem

This was actually written in the 1990's. I can't remember exactly when. But, I never really liked how it turned out. It never quite got my message across and it was burdensome to read with all its meter issues. So, in 2012 I took another crack at it and this is the final result. I still don't like it, but it is a lot better than the original version.
