DNR for Two

As I knelt beside your bed
And gently held your hand,
The subtle sound of rain
Brought out a pleasant smile.
"Rest, my love, for a little while."

I hated how it rained, only when I was sad.
It disguised what drops were on my cheek.
Sometimes I just stood outside to think,
And the rain could help me hide
The sadness I couldn't keep inside.

One day you came with your umbrella,
One I never asked for you to share.
Then you stood beside me; I couldn't hide the tear.
Sideways glance perceived the weaker side of me,
While staring ahead, you pretended not to see.

Now I strugle to give you solace
In this white and sterile room.
Doctors said that they saved your life,
But did naught but prolong your pains,
All those tubes in your throat and veins.

"So rest, my sweet, here's some tea."
"It's okay; I've already drunk mine."
"Shh, my love, just another sip."
"Close your eyes and sleep, my dear."
"Won't wait too long; I'll be right there."
