The drinking hole.

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The drinking hole.

We're here at our drinking hole cannery row. I see the ship sway and turn as they bring in their catch. As they dropped their nets, what a mess! We gut and clean the fish as they flop on the deck. I believe one more beer is in order, and then we will take a rest. The waves crash into the rocks, and it's almost sunset. It appears that one more beer and a shot are in order, followed by some rest. Next, we take a ride and find ourselves arrested for DWI. I think it's time for three beers and two shots. Don't ask me why I think I need a ride.

This poem, 'The drinking hole,' perfectly captures the atmosphere of a typical day at the cannery row. The imagery is vivid, and the sense of camaraderie among the characters is palpable. The repetition of the phrase "one more beer" and "rest" creates a sense of rhythm and routine that adds to the overall tone of the poem.

The poem effectively conveys the consequences of excessive drinking, as seen in the line where the characters find themselves arrested for DWI. This serves as a cautionary tale amidst the lighthearted and casual tone of the rest of the verse.

To further enhance the poem, I would suggest exploring more descriptive language to paint a more detailed picture of the setting. Additionally, adding more variation in the lines and structure of the poem could create a more dynamic flow and engage the reader even further.

Overall, 'The drinking hole' is a captivating and thought-provoking piece that immerses the reader in the world of the characters. With some additional tweaks and refinements, this poem has the potential to be even more impactful and memorable. Great job!
