Silence

Silence engulfs me
Like a cloak,
Like a dark cloud.
It suffocates me
Makes my breathing hard.
I want my scream
To penetrate it
But my voice is stuck,
And my throat is dry,
And my brain
A blank card.

I gulp down the liquid
Rising in my throat,
It burns like hell
I can't even whisper a word.
Like I have my lips locked
And I have lost the keys,
So I can't express my thoughts
Nor my needs.

I once was so lively
With not a care in the world.
I was called a chatterbox
Who said what she felt,
And floated through life
Like a weightless cloud.

But my life took a turn
When I opened my heart
And let in a stranger
Who would only harm me
In the long run.
Confusing my emotions
And raising my doubts.

My smile was stolen
My heart was trodden upon.
I have nothing left to say
There is silence all around.
And silence engulfs me,
