In This Age

In this age shrouded in darkness like a grim haze,
Where evil turns the hearts of men to wicked ways,
The quiet peace and simple joys of times now old,
For lusts of mere pleasure, power, and pride are sold.
Exhausted is the modern man, fraught with malaise,
Who wishes he had never lived to see such days.
As sorrows mount, hope trickles away evermore;
For how could things go back to as they were before?
But times like these recall old songs sung and tales told,
Of folk placed in such travails and yet remained bold,
Holding to one simple hope deep in their heart’s core:
There’s some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.
