The Power of Tranquility

You see me walking across the quiet street.
The power of my step, from my hips, to my feet.
There are people watching, admiring my move
The way I walk and talk is oh so smooth.

There's no stopping me now, I’ve already begun
I show off my beauty, just for fun
There's power within me, in my soul, in my heart
I’ve always known my beauty, ever since the start.

I push away opinions, others try to define me
But i ignore them, push criticism behind me
Because ancestors fought for me to be free
Rather than be alone because of hate on the street.

I admire my skin, and others do too
Caramel and shiny, as if it were new
Those who try and break me down, and break me apart
Always fail, because tranquility’s in my heart.

I am the future, and I’m going places
No matter the costs, or particular faces
I understand that it will get better
And like mama said; “I’m a real go-getter”.

Like that Ruby Bridges, who integrated school
Or the Rosa Parks, who was treated so cruel
I might look simple, or so it seems
But like MLK; I have a dream.
