"The Rooster and the Hen" (Part 1) (Draft 05)
Jeffrey Bryan Mamet 1959 (Hollywood, California)
February 24The rooster and the hen,
They had a lot of yen.
But, their wings did not work.
Must be God's little quirk.
They went to see a physician,
Who specialized in nutrition.
The doctor decided to run a test,
And told them to get more rest.
Next they went to see a shrink,
Who said, "Tell me what you think."
He politely offered them a drink,
And injected them with lots of zinc.
Although their wings weren't any better,
Each still dreamed of being a jet-setter.
So, they went to see a masseuse,
She made them feel loose as a goose.
Although her reputation was renowned,
The birds still could not get off the ground.
Next, they tried a chiropractor,
(They thought their spines might be a factor).
The chiropractor's name was Dr. Schachter,
He lived next door to a reactor,
And had once helped an injured raptor.
But, still they couldn't fly,
And they both began to cry.
At last, they visited Jesus Christ
(He had just returned from a bank heist),
He told them that all they needed was love,
And soon they would be able to soar above.
They went in search of affection,
Headed in my direction.
They said they had proof of the resurrection,
And needed my help like a bad infection.
But, I misunderstood, and so I tried,
To love them with all my might.
Perhaps ten thousand years from now,
The rooster, hen, the pig, and cow,
Will all be free and healthy too,
That's my wish for all of you.
About this poem
This poem was an attempt to communicate, in the first months of coronavirus in March 2020, in a different way about: needless suffering; my belief in miracles; and, my wish for happiness for all living things.
