Unwanted Passenger



I’m exhausted on the subway home
The stench of stale sweat invades me
A man leans in, his breath foul
“Hey there, pretty brown-eyes”
I square up to him
I reach for the
severed head
in my
purse

About this poem

This is my first nonet. It is a revised version of a submission elsewhere because I ADHDed it and messed up the counting. So this is my first official nonet, about a subway journey which takes an unexpected turn.

I’ve been writing poems as a hobby since I was a child. I won a competition when I was 8. I’m 38 now so I thought I’d enter some more.
