2 versions of you
We hit the ground running before I knew you were so cunning
There were always 2 versions of you
I always saw the good in you
But just as expected
You exploded just on cue
And to respect myself it meant having to lose you
You were my best friend
I know your love wasn’t pretend
But your best was a lot less than I deserve
Now I don’t have to hear you say
You’re stupid
You’re dumb
And I’m the more superior one
You adored me
In the end you bored me
Sick of always diffusing you
Always feeling confused by you
Walking on eggshells
I could hear the alarm bells
For years and years you laughed at my tears
Using me
Abusing me
Emotionally bruising me
There were always 2 versions of you
You were losing control
Hooked up with a mole
When you’d slam a door
I’d feel so anxious I’d fall to the floor
I wanted you to hold me
But you could be so cold to me
Gaslighting me, always fighting me
Because darlin
You’re stupid
You’re dumb
And I’m the one who’s really won
I was good for you
Selfless, kind, unconditionally loving
In the end you watched me aching
While you were only faking
You’d push me away but never let me go
I’d try to leave but you would beg and plead
Now I’m so glad I caught you with that hoe
You lied and denied that you were cheating
I cried but f*ck you, I’ve got pride
I told you goodbye
And now you can fucking watch me thrive
You’re no longer my one
I wish I knew how bad things could become
There were always 2 versions of you
Now darlin
You’re stupid
You’re dumb
And you’ve just lost the shining sun
I will always love you
We laughed, we played, we built a home to name a few
But you’ve fucked up
You’re expired and overdue
The hardest task is realising I fell in love with a mask
There were always 2 versions of you
About this poem
I was in a toxic relationship for 8 years. I was emotional abused and intimated for a very long time. I then caught him cheating 2 weeks before we were moving to overseas together. I left him.
