Moment

Its like finally being at peace. Finally being able to breathe again. Nothing but the sounds outside surrounding you. Distant traffic rumbling by as the wind whips through the trees and around the houses. Birds flying to safety against the overhead currents as clouds roll in a tumbled mess across the darkened sky. It’s perfect. Quiet. A place to hide away. A peace not found everyday or explained. With eyes shut, and for just this moment, there’s no need to pretend. No fake smile to keep around. No pretending needing. Just existing; feeling the world. Letting breath come easier. Where words don’t speak. Aches are let go. And reality disappears. If only for a moment.

Nothing like a storm and some classical music to ease the heart. Release the burden of unending anxiety that holds you in it’s cold embrace. Sitting while existing in the dark, as the chill wraps you like a warm blanket by the fire. A hug. It leaves goose pimples behind. Taking away the negative thoughts lurking just below the skin. Barricading your mind. Thoughts. Emotions. Your identity. Shielding everything that needs protection. Keeping it safe. Letting the rhythm beat against your foes. Trumpets blare wildly. Violins screech hauntingly. Drums force their heavy sound against your ears. Lulling. Lulling like a lullaby. The storm encompasses everything. Nuzzled in the dark, a light rain starts to fall before you. Hiding you from the people that surround you. Which pull you this way and that.

People who don’t understand the ambience or it’s unearthly call. Those whose flame burns bright. Shining like a supernova. Burning across galaxies. Exploding. Creating. Being brilliant. Not like your matchstick. Too small. Thin. Barely oxygenated. Your flame nearly snuffed out. It shrouds you. Because eventually, the sun will shine again. The pain will slowly come back. The people will continue their tug-of-war. A storm lasts only so long. A brief moment in time. A break from the sun and it’s shining. But, that’s all some need to endure. To live. To forget. A calming moment.  Brief. There.

About this poem

This poem is about the emotional release one can get from just feeling the world around them. Being able to connect and just exist for the briefest of moments. Others may not be able to understand the feeling but those that do will be able to resonate and feel what it's like to just be.
