Unkept promises

I told him that I loved him
but I don't think he really believed me
though I'm not sure words are quite enough
to convey my love sufficiently

Seeing is believing and hearing is deceiving
so I would rip my heart out for everyone to take a look
at your name carved in black at the bottom right corner
hoping someday this heart you won't forsook

I would follow you to the ends of the Earth
if it meant I'd be there with you
because promising to stay by your side forever
isn't the same as proving it too

I wish and wish and wish
to see your beaming smile everyday
I couldn't care less if it costed me my own
your light will shine through my gloomy clouds of grey

I could write you a letter for every day of the week
or an entire book on how I truly feel
but if you can't perceive the love I'm emanating
then what difference would it make if my feelings were unreal?

Those three words become meaningless
once you've understood the concept of effort
because even if I were to be drowning at sea
I'd still find a way to be your oasis in the middle of the desert

Words are powerful enough to be used as a weapon
and I know I sometimes tend to use them too
so it's okay if you still don't believe me
I will in some way prove my love to you

About this poem

This poem is based on "actions speak louder than words". It's about how someone could tell you anything that may be pleasing to you, but if they can't prove it to you then it is most likely not true. For instance, you tell someone you love them, but if they don't feel loved then what's the point? Proving it to them should be more important than any spoken "unkept promise". This poem is from the other person's perspective. The person hoping to prove their love for their friend or lover. They talk to their friend or lover trying to get them to understand the depth of their love. The reader gets to experience it from a positive perspective. It's also ironic because the poem is based on words and things that they say they'll do even though it clearly mentions that words are meaningless and aren't enough to convey their love.
