My Foe

Shannon ialongo 1975 (Chicago)

My Foe

Time can be obtrusive
It's everywhere
It knows you

The nooks and crannies of your soul
It's in your heart and in your mind
It's at your work and in your eyes
the daily tik-tok of your life
you cannot run, you cannot hide
Time will always find you

Time,
I got my eyes on you
I see you
Please slow down.

Time abhors me, it has no reason
It seems to have no fear
No patience, no awareness
of the things that I hold so dear
Time forsakes my nerves, my heart
and makes it ever so clear
That time will wait for no one
A leader with no peers.

I have an army of love, to fight this thing called Time
The rawkus beast of bastion, the thing we can't unwind
Time owns you like a dictator with the most maniacal of fleats
no wild flights of fury or passion
has ever delivered defeat

We hang our heads and feel the loss
as we give in to this thing called Time
Not knowing freedom is within our reach
as the beast is only in our minds

Perception is our ally
Our armament, our faith
awareness of what we've created
regardless of time's gate

The universe our mother
The body, the child, the slate
our love for each other everlasting
Time in all it's might
 cannot contain
