When I Rise

In the morning, when I rise
I will shed all of the anchors, restraints and the ties
I will face the day with pride and no fear
I will face the day with friends and family near

The day may hold chaos or peace
I walk through the storm in hope it will cease
The winds are strong and there's a bite in the cold
Never in my life, has my body felt so old

In spite of the pain and wounds that I feel
I will continue to grow, to find peace and to heal

I pray, I hope, I plead and I beg
But my brain misfires just like a fried egg
My thoughts are all jumbled, mixed up and tossed
It takes so much just not to feel lost

In spite of the pain and wounds that I feel
I will continue to grow, to find peace and to heal

I will never give up. I refuse to quit
It doesn't matter if any of it seems legit
There are times when I feel that I am alone
To anxious thoughts I am always prone

In spite of the pain and wounds that I feel
I will continue to grow, to find peace and to heal

In the morning, when I rise
I will shed all of the anchors, restraints and the ties
I will face the day with pride and no fear
I will face the day with friends and family near

Seek my face and I will restore
I cry out for help, but you are silent once more

In the midst of the pain and sorrow I feel
He is there watching close in the times I don't kneel
He sees every teardrop and feels every ache
He is there for the sorrow, shortcomings and mistakes

In the morning, when I rise
I will shed all of the anchors, restraints and the ties
I will face the day with pride and no fear
I will face the day with friends and family near
