Drowning in the Darkness

I'm drowning in the darkness
Without a speck of light
The waves crash around me
I'm drowning as I fight

The world is caving in and I'm grasping for my breath
The storm is raging high and I'm yearning for some rest

The days are lost, the memories don't matter
Will I live or die? The likely is the latter
Does the soul live on or is this the end?
The darkness envelops me as my body breaks and bends

The hope is gone. The light, it fades
What will become of this life I have made?
Is all hope lost and there is no reason?
No reason to press on and conquer this season?

Quietly I hear a whisper of sound
The waves cease and I stand on the ground
My body is dry and my face free from tears
The pain has been lifted from all of these years

What was that sound, that voice in the still
I will search for that voice and follow its will
The voice is inside me and says to press on
The old body is shed and forever gone

Resilience, beauty, strength and pride
Are all of the weapons I keep by my side
I can't stop the storms, they will always come
But I will never forget where it is I came from

In spite of the rain, and winds that will come
I stay true to myself and the beat of my drum
The drum that pounds to the beat of my heart
The reason I am me and that sets me apart
