HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

It all started when this North Philly man met a Southern Belle
It was least expected yet a unique love story they would tell.
They might not have been one another’s type
Yet that man got a message that woman was his wife.
Him not fully being ready to take her on
They still said “I Do” to take their journey together  from there on
Starting out sharing a room in his parent’s house with two children
Built the determination to work hard and provide a place just for them
Beginning with nothing
Piece by piece they would build something
Standing under the tree at 1-2-4-3
Planted the seeds to learn the ethics of unity.
Those days of small things we don’t take for granted nor do we regret
Because now looking back those things built our grit
It was the sacrifice of their blood, sweat, and tears laying the tile foundation
To reap the prosperity of their children and children’s children
This love was built from the ground up
Toughening it out when the going got rough
We would never repay you both for ALL  you’ve done
Even with all our effort it is still not enough
We have learned wise lessons from your dedication to teach the next generation
Your love is the mortar that seals us concretely
We as an entity stand in solidarity
Because of the choice of choosing each another to create a family
Though this dwelling be temporary
Our house was never home without Bert and Mary
Wherever you two are is our haven our safe space
For loving, caring, laughter, warmth, peace, and grace
Because from the  humble beginnings of a young love grown old
The core values of being a family was the best story ever told.
