I Am a Poet

I am a poet.
Not a writer or some misused blogger, I speak from truth and experience.
I speak from desire, not to be heard. I speak for myself.
I am free like a bird, no stipulations, no grammar, no grading curve.
The words I speak, I want people to feel every nerve.
I am a poet.
I write with my heart not my hands. I am a generational pass, currents flow through me, whispers blow to me, emotions pour on me, I am a poet.
I feel the weight of the world underneath my feet.
My duty is to tell it, not to write it up for your political gain, or for your approval.
I don’t care for your disgust or disdain.
I write for me, I write for those who don’t listen but hear.
I am an ancient storyteller.
Clever how my ancestors made me but I am a poet.
In every word I intend to make sure you know it.
Be appalled, be confused, not everyone will be amused, but again I reiterate.
I am simply just a poet.
