If I Could Travel Back In Time

If I could travel back in time
I'd take your fearful hand and say
'Not long enough' and 'gone too soon' and
'Alex, please don't fly today'.

If I could change their cutting words
(And I don't know what they said to you)
You couldn't block them out down here
But four floors up should do.

I have the Polish postcards still,
You sent from long hot holidays
I remember your mum's Polish sausage
I remember those happier days

You song of witches echoing down
Music from 'The Haunted House'
We shared a stage and played all night
Before your long descent.

If I could close that window now
You'd turn around and I would say
'Not long enough' and 'gone too soon' and
'Alex, please don't fly today'.

About this poem
