The Conflicted Perception

When someone just rejects you take it as it comes
for then you know you’re not of them cause your new life has begun
For what they see has long been gone they never knew you at all
Their thinking is so narrow and oh so very small
It tears you down and holds you captive trying not to part
If you search for yourself inside of them you have no place in their hearts
Even though they talk to you and masquerade as light
they haven’t seen the true you it is darkened in their night
But you are strong beneath it all and tread the waters blue
you fight to stay alive that’s what you always do
There’s nothing you can say or do that will ever change their minds their twisted thoughts are ravishing but are so very blind
So see yourself my child as you know you truly are
You are such a diamond shining
brighter than the nearest star ⭐️

About this poem

About not getting caught up in the perceptions of others and the battle it can be to overcome that. When we pull away from that it is easier to see our true beauty and worth as God’s children. The Light within

I was born in Dalton, Ga and raised in the small town of Chatsworth just a few miles from there. I am a childhood survivor of divorce and alcoholism. When I was in elementary school I loved Spelling, English and anything to do with words or grammar. I loved everything about being at that school. When divorce and a tornado ripped through my life and house I was left to myself shortly after. I turned to alcohol as an escape as most of the adults in my life were doing. I struggled with addiction throughout adolescence and into my young adulthood. At the age of 30 I finally surrendered it all to God. I have been almost 26 years sober and married that many in May. I have been blessed with a loving husband, three great kids along with their significant others and a feisty and fun granddaughter. I love my four fur babies too! I have always been an animal lover and can’t remember a time when I didn’t have one. I used to love to roller skate as a kid especially speed skating. I guess I have taken the love for that and turned it into running. I started running in 2015 and after discovering the many mental and physical benefits of it I have continued it off and on since. . I started out running 5ks, then 10ks, to half-marathons. I have placed in some of these races in my age group. Running has been an inspiration for me and has helped me breakthrough depression that I struggled with for years. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing board games and corn hole and just laughing with them. My relationship with Jesus, my family and trying to stay physically fit has kept me grounded in my life. I am so thankful for all of my blessings. Also, I can make a mean cupcake and have enjoyed making others happy while expressing their delight in my sweet treats. I really love to listen to all kinds of music, too. It has been a source of therapy to me as well. Even though I don’t have much of an education because I only have my GED and some college. I still think I have something to offer through my words and poetry. I have 2 published books one is a children’s book and the other one is my testimony. more…
