TWILIGHT ELEGY

TWILIGHT ELEGY

Traveling the frigid asphalt of the ebon highway
Into the stark twilight of an Oppressive winter’s day
Rushing towards the shelter of our warm place

Leafless branches twisting in the cold evening breeze
Reach out with skeletal Fingers
Hoping to turn us from our journey

Snow covered hillsides beckon in the distance
Seen Through the Approaching gloom,
Yearning for that last lingering touch of vernal sunshine

Urban monoliths stare with cold dark eyes
As we hurry past, into the approaching night
Wishing they could join us on our journey

Streetlights bathe our way with soft golden glow
As tired wheels grind snow covered streets, searching for
The warm glow of that open door which welcomes us home.
