Start Believing

Locked in a spot
Crouched, hidden away
Missing the feeling
Missing the day

I was always afraid
Of getting exactly what I want
So here we are
All feelings to the front

It’s not that I care
About the money or fame
I just wanted to be noticed
Before I bowed out in shame

The regret is tempered
By what could and could not be
The future, plainly focused
Unfettered possibility

Movement is the only option
The only way through is through
No one is coming for me now
No one, nothing new

It scares me to my core
But I am bigger than I suppose
And it’s too tiring to continue
Believing I am alone

This is bigger than me
It always has been
And now I have the key
I don’t need to break in

The old ways fall down
The joints loosen up
The engine starts and turns
I know I have enough

Heart is alive
Still beating
I’m still breathing
I’d better start believing

About this poem

I wrote this poem right around the time k quit my old job, which I hated. I was scared and excited to start a new life, and this is my attempt to capture those feelings.
