A New Season

Today starts differently
Morning broke chill fog
No rain, No thunder
Just a dried cold December morning

It's a new season
I can feel its power
With the smell of rain still in my nose
My lungs breathe meek dust
Which signals harmattan coming

Trees shall begin to strip off their leaves
As the leaves turn hue brown
Choir shall begin to go by moonlight
Singing carol like cherubim
As they welcome Christmas

We shall begin to rob kernel oil
And cover blanket in the cold night
As we overhear the voice of trade wind
Whooping for joy
As it ushers in a new year

We shall begin to make new resolutions
And dust ourselves up from past ruins
Set new goals and targets
It's a new beginning, a renewed hope
That this year will bring for us good tidings

The poem "A New Season" portrays the transition of seasons and changes that follows, from rainy season to a cold, dry mornings of December signals a new season filled with anticipation and renewal.

The narrator observes the change in weather, noting the ending of rain and thunder, a shift in the natural environment. This transition is marked by the onset of harmattan, even with the smell of rain lingering in the air, a feel of dust in the lungs signals the coming season

Symbolically, the poem suggests a broader seasonal and spiritual change. The act of robbing kernel oil and covering oneself with blankets in cold nights reflects practical preparations for the changing season. Trees shedding their leaves and turning brown symbolize nature's cyclical renewal, while the mention of caroling choir under moonlight evokes a festive atmosphere associated with Christmas and the coming new year.

The poem concludes with a personal and communal renewal. It speaks of making new resolutions, dusting off past failures, and setting new goals with renewed hope for the future. The anticipation of good tidings in the coming year is palpable, reflecting optimism and a fresh start.

Overall, "A New Season" captures the essence of seasonal change intertwined with human aspirations for renewal and hope, inviting readers to reflect on their own transitions and expectations for the new year.
