Before You Love Someone Else

Before You Love Someone Else
By Robert T. Davenport
In a world filled with expectations and demands,
Where love is often sought from others' hands,
There's a truth that's often overlooked, my friend,
To love yourself first, before you love someone else, is the key to mend.
For how can you give love, pure and true,
If you don't know how to love yourself, too?
It's a journey, a process, to discover your worth,
To embrace your flaws and celebrate your birth.
Love yourself, fiercely and unconditionally,
For you are worthy of love, abundantly.
Find solace in your own company, your own embrace,
And let self-love fill every empty space.
Don't seek validation from others' eyes,
For their opinions are just passing skies.
You are the author of your own story,
And self-love is the protagonist, shining in all its glory.
Embrace your quirks, your imperfections,
For they make you unique, a rare collection.
Celebrate your strengths, your passions, your dreams,
And let self-love guide you, like a gentle stream.
When you love yourself, you set yourself free,
From the chains of dependency, from the need to agree.
You become whole, complete, in your own right,
And love from others becomes an added delight.
So, my dear friend, remember this truth,
To love yourself first is not uncouth.
It's a foundation, a pillar, on which love can grow,
A journey of self-discovery, a love that will forever glow.
