Do you remember

That time
When those guys
from the other side of the line
tried to chase us for miles
because you said that you used to have his Mum on speed dial...

How fast we ran.
How long.
We were strong
and full of the sense that we’d
NEVER be wrong.

That impossible feeling
of touching the sky
whilst the ground keeps us safe
and rooted to life -
being free.

being bright.

being greater than “them” -
Whoever they are.
Whatever they meant.

But time blunders on
and crow’s feet curl up,
we forgot how to laugh.
we learned how to work.

It’s a shame,
coz each day
When I think of my life
I don’t enjoy money.

I miss running miles.
