Piper Be Paid

Piper Be Paid

The elbows you once rubbed still bend as they drink
Certain to have accomplished much more than you think
Eye pairs thought friendly watch you living hard your own lies
Its you pulled the wool over your own flocks proverbial eyes

When told such corruption is but a mere harmless production of victimless crimes
You had no clue of the hell to be paid after having lived neverending fast times
You confide in your neighbors wife naked at the pool snorting your ego drawn lines
Equally skilled as you two are at the 'stepping way over' and 'out of line' kinds

Undaunted by whats right nor by what is sometimes insurmountably correct
For your daughter at home it was every bit found to be just as she did suspect
As if some greater being had grasped so very firm all winning straws
To exercise power and dominion over your bottomless pit reaching falls

Another quite like it yet still worsens the trend
What with this whirlwind of friends and newfound addition
As they too are pitiful criteria to be used to no end
So let be each others families share decadent filth in selfish gratification
Just come back to earth where we pray God still consider your deliverence from sin

Your too long insecure and oh so lonely shell of a wife you've left at home
Has found herself in a reluctant ill courage take one step too deep into her sons sinful bed
Where countless taboo quakes of her earth having come a passion so well known
Be forever unable to shake away the gnaw of her guilt, her shame or her wish to be dead

It wasnt much longer that those taunts got the better of her,  that wish be made true
When youd shared face to face as she poured out her hearts every thought of her love hating you

Grasping you'd all been taken by a sick ignorance of her as your daughter
She saw happening all  things she chose not to do
When she saw you three shooting crank and try hard to seduce her
Her begging you all stop  was but futile getting through

You didnt tell a soul that she was gone
I'm thinking you werent even aware
She had left home, was gone for how long
None of you knew she was no longer there

What were you thinking  when your daughter ran away
She knew you didnt care so she fled here to stay
You never even told me she was gone or showed any concern
Until after a few days in jail came to your senses and  you were to burn

The only one to not lack common sense determined she'll beat the terms of such test
She was an epitome of mature enough to keep trying her best
Alienated, hurt and rattled in an awful unlimited confuse
Somehow managing to stay strong though afraid she would lose

So you leave nothing much more than ruins to your sons legacy
Your daughter remains alienated having long ago turned to me
I held her and loved her and made my home hers  as much as I could
While she sought special comfort from one whom she held dear
Sudden to come was the unexpected we both totally understood
Next would be carnal knowledge of which we both steered quite happily clear

Then realized how we had done so in major peals of laughter
With her life still shattered, so overwhelmed and very well confused
We still knew we were not meant for what each other was after
A year since I'd heard her laugh, seen her smile or the least bit  amused

Twenty nine years now has been time far behind your tormented bunch
Still you refuse in your shame too afraid to accept  to join me for lunch
I was close enough through the whole of it for God sake
I'd seen it all going on and tried hard to make you  put away your mistake.

You lost all you had and more than a daughter, son and wife
You lost more than what was to lose short of taking your own life
She took hers that day though we both know you killed her
She chose a warm bath and pills but watched all you did pull the trigger

Written at the request of the daughter in the poem wanting to know a bit how it was for me through that time in spite of her being right there to see how it affected me. She said she always felt there was something I never told her...and after thinking about it I had to ask if she remembered all those times I told her I love her as who she was, my friends special girl that I love like  my own daughter....she remembered it that way.

About this poem

The daughter in the poem came to me some 29 years later and asked if I could sum up the events of those particular times and so I did. This was the result.
